The city was founded on June 1, 1954. As of May 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 21,512, with 8,360 households and a population density of 127.06 persons per km². The total area is 169.31 km². ==History== An Imperial decree in July 1899 established Miyazu as an open port for trading with the United States and the United Kingdom.〔US Department of State. (1906).
